The concept of the ‘male gaze’ by Laura Mulvey is important and is often used in art. This concept best describes John Berger’s words ‘Men act, women appear’. The first thing that came to my mind when I heard this concept was The Handmaid’s Tale series. The series has a subject entirely dominated by male domination and women are passive objects. Even the names of women were taken from them. They are now just ‘baby machines’ for men. These women, whose rights have been taken away, have become the property of men and only serve them. In this series, we can see the woman in the most passive way. The only role of women in this series is sexual slavery. The man has the freedom he wants and manages the women. To summarize, serials/movies in which women are also heroes are being shot, but the content is still being produced that women will not be invisible and superior to men due to past habits. I hope that as soon as possible, these sexist distinctions do not reflect male domination, and just sovereignty is reflected in every field of art. Women are more than bodies and objects.
